Trivitron Healthcare Launching Affordable Digital Technology in the Field of Medicine

Trivitron Healthcare is launching a ‘Digital Mammography System’ along with a new range of digital radiographic system and diagnostic kits and equipments in cities—Chennai, Mumbai and Pune. Currently, at the entry level, the digital mammography machine costs from Rs 1 crore up to 2.5 crores, and 50 lakhs to 2 crores for radiography machine. The newly developed Digital Mammographic and radiographic machine of Trivitron—developed by implementing its own innovation, software and design—is bringing down the current cost of these machines to at least 30 to 50 per cent. Our innovation and R&D are focused on making digital solutions affordable and accessible in India along with developing countries.

The digital technology in the health sector is redefining the way its getting evolved

Health regulation in India will continue to remain weak for some time to come for at least following three reasons: 

1) Lack of resources: It is a well-known fact that the government, both at the Centre and states, spends too little on healthcare and that there is a need for a huge step up in this spending. 

2) Greater maturity of the Private Sector:  An effective self-regulation by the industry is important because when the Gurgaon-like incidents happen, it casts shadow of doubt on other reputed private players too. It is in the collective interest of private players to self-regulate, and let the regulator step in only in case of egregious violations.

3)Lack of regulatory knowledge for technology-driven disruptive models: The digital technology is a big disruptor in the health sector too. And this is true not just in India, but globally. Application of the digital technology in the health sector is redefining the manner in which healthcare gets delivered. Traditional, brick-and-motor models of providing healthcare are getting challenged. Digital technology is increasingly being deployed to enable patients navigate healthcare system at the appropriate level.

An App A day brings the Doctor Close by in the Digital Age

In an era where you can get your food and other necessities using a mobile application, consulting a doctor using one shouldn’t come as a surprise. Apps are offering round-the-clock medical consultation through smartphones. From special services for diabetic patients or the elderly to offering doctors a spam-free and secure environment to communicate with each other, its all app-solutely possible.
Take Doctor Insta, which claims to be India’s first telemedicine platform with constant coverage for patients. “The platform provides smart, proactive, informed second opinions from top specialists in the US, and has 50 doctors on board,” says Amit Munjal, its Founder and Chief Executive. The doctors are selected by an expert panel of medical professionals. And specialists available on this platform include paediatricians, psychologists, nutritionists, gynecologists, even homeopaths.
At Curofy, an app aimed at doctors, medical professionals can provide referrals, share cases, call other doctors without saving numbers and access specific and recent research developments. At CallWithDoctor, patients can talk to a doctor anywhere in the world at a time and from a location of their choice.
Wellthy Therapeutics caters to diabetic patients. A digital therapeutics company, it uses artificial intelligence (AI) and patient-centric designs to help improve patient outcomes for everyone involved in diabetes care. And Dawai Dost is designed to help the elderly. It keeps track of their schedules and reminds them to take their medicines. An important feature here is the voice notification that reminds the user in their native language (Hindi and Tamil currently, with plans for more).
Revenue models vary across apps: some take a consultation fee from patients; others tie-up with pharma companies and corporates to generate income

The FDA has been championing digital health of late with wide-ranging guidance that derives from the 21st Century Cures Act.
This legislation acknowledges the potential that digital health has to make a difference in patient care, potentially leading to more precise therapies. Several developments this week show that the regulator is right to be excited about its potential.
Some of the most exciting Digital advances have come in the field of cancer – medical devices firm Angle has produced a new analysis showing that its liquid biopsy device Parsortix could be used instead of conventional tissue biopsies.
Parsortix works by monitoring a patient’s bloodstream for circulating cancer cells.

FDA Approved the First 'Digital Medicine System'

In November, the FDA approved the first “digital medicine system” from Ostuka and Proteus in the form of Abilify MyCite, Otsuka’s antipychostic medication embedded with an ingestible sensor from Proteus that can show if a medication has been digested. The sensor had been “approved” since 2012 by the FDA to be included in the clinical trials, but in the drug’s public debut, interesting opinions emerged. The New York Times’ “First Digital Pill Approved to Worries About Biomedical Big Brother” (view here) is certainly an attention-grabber, and the article did bring up legitimate questions, specifically around ethics, compliance, and trust, as well as some interesting views around the patient population.

Partnership between Lilly and Rimidi on digital diabetes management tool

Pharmaceutical companies in the diabetes market are all investing in tech to help doctors and patients manage the condition.
Lilly yesterday announced the next component in the ‘beyond the pill’ strategy it is constructing for diabetes, a new alliance with digital health company Rimidi.
The pharma company is already developing its own diabetes management ‘ecosystem’ and has chosen Rimidi to provide the diabetes management software platform that will underpin it.
Dexcom is one of a new breed of companies developing continuous glucose monitoring (GCM) devices, which are set to play a major role in type 1 diabetes management. It has forged alliances with numerous companies in the field, including Rimidi and Lilly, each company ensuring their devices, software and data systems are compatible, a move seen as essential in order to gain traction at this early stage of the digital diabetes market.

Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence StartUps to be offered £68k an acceleration towards Digital healthcare

Velocity Health is an accelerator programme spear-headed by global healthcare firm Merck Sharp & Dohme (MSD) and Wayra UK, the accelerator platform owned by Telefónica.
Set up in 2015, it targets start-ups working to meet the challenges facing the NHS.
This year, MSD and Wayra UK are seeking firms using machine learning and AI to support disease and illness prevention.
Two companies will be offered a maximum of £68,000 each in funding and “acceleration services”.
They will meet with mentors, coaches and investors, who will offer entrepreneurial support throughout the 10-month programme. They will also have access to Warya UK’s office space in central London.The deadline for applications is 4 January, 2018, with the finalists being announced on 12 January.
The NHS has made digital excellence the cornerstone of its future model and all must embrace this to have a healthcare system fit for the 21st Century.

Capio strenghtens its involvement in Digital Healthcare

Capio (Registered office is in Stockholm, Sweden) is strengthening its involvement in the development of digital healthcare solutions by investing MSEK 49 in the new share issue of MSEK 100 that was announced by the e-health provider Doctrin . By investing, Capio is participating in the development of new digital applications based on artificial intelligence, increasing efficiency in healthcare provision and improving patient experience. 
During fall this year, implementation of the new digital tools "Better Visits" and "Online Consultations started in Capio's primary care operations in Sweden.

New Digital Health policies by US FDA to encourage innovation, efficiency & modernization

US FDA issued the Digital Health Innovation Action Plan, which outlines its efforts to reimagine the FDA’s approach to ensuring all Americans have timely access to high-quality, safe and effective digital health products. As part of this plan, it is committed to several key goals, including increasing the number and expertise of digital health staff at the FDA, launching the digital health software precertification pilot program (“Pre-Cert”) and issuing guidance to modernize our policies. 

The US FDA announced 3 new , significant policy documents to advance its approach to the development and proper oversight of Innovative Digital Health Tools

It will be taking other steps to implement its Digital Health Innovation Action Plan. It is hosting a Pre-Cert Pilot Program workshop on January 30-31, 2018  to update FDA staff, participants and stakeholders on the lessons learned from the pilot.

GOOGLE takes on Digital Health from Multiple Angles

Tech giant Google continues to build out an extensive healthcare ecosystem. The company announced two new healthcare services: 
Machine learning and Genomic Sequencing:The Google Brain team and Verily Life Sciences, Alphabet's health subsidiary, have teamed up to introduce an open source version of DeepVariant, the machine learning tool that can strengthen the accuracy of genomic sequencing.

Google Search for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD): Google has partnered with two US groups, the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and the National Center for PTSD, to introduce a new search feature that could help people identify if they suffer from the disorder. 

Google's recent efforts in healthcare go beyond machine learning and search. In the last few months, the company announced a slew of partnerships with health IT businesses, launched a start-up focused on urban health, and acquired a mobile vitals tracking start-up.
